“I’m currently from Burr Oak, Michigan but a native of Phoenix, Arizona. After having the luxury of not working out of the home for most of my life, about a year ago my husband really encouraged me to pursue my dreams of designing homes. We built a home in Florida together in 2015 that I designed and actually drew in an online software program that I found at the time. Of course, we took it to an actual architect who made the prints official before the build. This really fueled my passion for design. Its been a “hobby” and ambition of mine for as long as I can remember to design and draw homes, I had just never pursued it; being a busy mom and raising kids.

“I launched LKDesignco just over a year ago, primarily intending to design interiors for people in 3D and help them through the entire design process, choosing finishes, and seeing their remodel or new build through to the end. I tailor my services to each client, learning exactly what they need from me. It’s my passion to make home building fun as it should be!

“My cousin from Arizona told me about Chief Architect when I asked her for advice for a great 3D design software. Her father, my uncle, is an architect and they have built custom homes for over 30 years in Phoenix and surrounding areas. Needless to say, after I took a look at your software, I loved every bit of it. I am not a trained architect or draftsman but the software is extremely user-friendly, not to mention perfect for 3D design.

“I purchased Chief Architect and got going, learning as I went. The coolest part is the fact that the software produces blueprints. I have found that in this area, builders are very happy with the prints produced and they work with me to get it just right. The ability to produce the blueprint has been a big bonus for me that I didn’t see coming.

“My little business is really catching on and growing quickly. I’m currently working on my 4th complete home and a local doctor’s office. “

I am extremely blessed and a little overwhelmed at what I am able to produce, all because of this amazing software.

Amanda Mattson Wins 3rd Place with Her Spacious Beach Inspired Bathroom

By Jake Murray

Amanda placed 3rd in the Chief Architect Kitchen/Bath & Interiors Design Contest! Her ability to learn from different design perspectives has contributed to her success as a young designer.

“My interest in design all started in high school when I decided to focus on art and design classes. I grew up in Massachusetts where I attended college in Boston at Wentworth Institute of Technology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. As a young designer, I am always curious about “what’s the new thing.” I am always wanting to learn from a different design perspective. For example, my last co-op I worked with architects and got to understand more about the structure. These advantages help me understand what I am designing and what I need to improve on as a young designer. Continue reading…

Ciara Cuddihy-Hernandez won 2nd with her complete home remodel in Portland, Oregon

This remodel is for a home in Portland, Oregon. Our client actually grew up in this home and wants to do a complete remodel. We are adding an addition to the front on the house to gain extra space for a larger master bedroom with en suite master bath. We are also opening up the main floor completely to have an open plan kitchen and living space. Finally, we are changing the roof style from flat to a shed roof with vaulted ceilings in the living/kitchen area to add a greater sense of space and utilize the natural light as these rooms are south facing.

Ciara won 2nd in the Chief Architect Remodel-Addition Design Contest! Originally from Ireland, she is now the project designer for John Webb Construction & Design in Eugene, Oregon.

“I am originally from Ireland and moved to Eugene, Oregon 5 year ago. I started designing in school and attended the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland where I received a Bachelor of Design specializing in glass.  I started interior design about a year ago and have been working for John Webb Construction and Design since June of 2017.

“I have been using Chief Architect for 3 months. Our company decided to start using Chief Architect because of the great features it has.” Continue reading…

Robin Rigby Fisher – Featured NKBA Study Guide Designer

By Adrean Stephenson

When you have been designing Kitchens and Baths for 32 years and teaching the process to others for 14 more, it is next to impossible to not know your stuff. Robin Rigby Fisher is no exception, and it shows in the Large Bath she submitted for 2017’s NKBA Design Competition.

“I teach part-time at Portland Community College, an NKBA Accredited College. One of the reasons I continue to teach is to make sure that I stay at the top of my game. I want my drawings to be as meticulous as possible because I expect that from my students.  I think they are synonyms. I’m at the top of my game because my students are at the top of theirs. They are highly desirable, highly regarded. They are easy to hire. That’s what I like about teaching.
